The Progress Of Civilization.

One of the characteristics of an ever-advancing civilization is the increasingly pervasive influence of the division of labor. Division of labor extends further and further throughout societies and more and more people participate. Also the division of labor becomes more and more intensive with higher and higher degrees of specialization.

In parallel, social evolution advances both subjectively and objectively. It advances subjectively as the number of people in the world increases and as the number of people participating in the division of labor increases. It advances objectively as the aims of the division of labor activities become more and more in synch with the betterment of humankind.

The two monumental entrepreneurial directions that will receive a great deal of attention as a new civilization that is worldwide in scope unfolds will fulfill this process that is driven by and an expression of the division of labor. One is converting the boundary-laden world based on the physical limitations of the planet into one that is more or less digital, one that takes into account the almost unbounded intellectual potentialities that were pretty much unknown when the current structure of civilization took shape.

The other monumental entrepreneurial direction that will characterize the ever-advancing civilization will come about through the specialization associated with division of labor in the ethical realm. Another untapped area of human potential, that no longer will be stifled by superstitions and traditions, will be the extension and intensification of the acquisition and application of human virtues. This represents a replacement of the limitations of the boundary-laden world based on the physical limitations of the planet and its people with the unbounded spiritual potentialities that have suffered in a world consumed by materialism and atheism.

Apart from the scientific fact that the State is destructive of human civilization it is also unquestionably evident that the direction forward has no need of or room for a nationalistic, restrictive, materialistic, and atheistic institution such as the State.

It is time to discard the negative consequences of the slavery of statism and it is time to venture forward by pursuing the stateless world of prosperous and diverse societies composing an ever-advancing civilization.

When Will The Ideological Disease Of Statism Be Cured?

Statism survives and is promulgated by theft (taxes = coercive extraction of wealth) and by hidden taxation (inflation = counterfeiting the currency) and by deception (borrowing under the guise of sovereignty with no real ability to pay back). Without any one of these the house of cards crumbles. When none of them exist the ideological disease of statism will be cured once and for all!

A Friend Asked “but I’m not aware of any inadequacy in Austrian economics.”

I do not believe there is any inadequacy in Austrian economics or in classical liberalism but these are traditions that continue to grow, both in importance and in content.

Austrian economics is not something static, which is why the entrepreneurial spirit of alertness is important at all times. Not everyone is at the same ‘place’ as they endeavor to immerse themselves in study. Here are a few questions that may spur serious students along this line of deeper investigation: in the human mind there is no artificial boundary between ethics and economics despite the fact that the empirical tendencies of ‘science’ over the last couple of centuries have created this myth; and, a means like peace can also be an ends and so the artificial boundaries assumed to exist between ends and means cannot move the science of human action forward or at least not as far forward as a scientific foundation that does not require this artificial boundary; and, why could religion – as in the case of the Spanish Scholastics – be a key factor in the advancement of classical liberalism in the past but for some supposedly ‘scientific’ reason we are now to think that it cannot?

Descriptive Words, Concise And Powerful, Counteract The Half-truths of Statism.

Sure, economic theory is made evident by reason and logic and it can be described with great intricacies that are irrefutable. But not everyone has the interest in delving in deeply. It remains true, though, that understanding economic laws is as vital as understanding physical laws like gravity and temperature and so there is an irresistible desire to understand.

Those who understand economics and can convey the knowledge of economics in a concise and powerful way provide a valuable service to humankind. Since the ideology of statism is built upon half-truths that cannot withstand the scrutiny of reason and logic when put to the test it is really important that those of us who have knowledge of economic laws find a way to give it descriptively, effectively, and in a style and length that matches well with the attention span and interest level allotted by people to the study of economic concepts in these frenetic times.

What Exactly Does The Author Mean By “Divine Economy?”

Divine implies beyond the reach of human understanding, in a sense. It is the moral foundation of laissez-faire. How could the incomprehensible greatness of the market process be understood within the undeniable limitations of the human mind? 

Natural law cannot be violated. A rock is a rock, a tree is a tree, an animal is an animal, and a human is a human. There are limitations. To ignore this inability to comprehend the infinite-like nature of the market process or to arrogantly disregard it is a characteristic of someone who is ego-driven.

How could following that which is ego-driven ever end well? Especially when the alternative – understanding and recognizing reality as it is – is scientific and full of dynamism and grace and justice and liberty and prosperity and peace!

Statism is an ideology that accepts ego-driven interventionism and all of the crimes that germinate from the errors which inevitably result from the human inability to comprehend all of the liberty and justice that comes from the forces of economic equilibrium.
